Forster Boaties reunion
Re: Forster Boaties reunion
I thought that these glass bottom/timber top skiffs were built to race as a class in Queensland some years ago. I think they ran 6 cylinders, but the like of older Holdens and Jags. The class sort of died off.
Re: Forster Boaties reunion
Yep, there was a Queensland Skiff class. The hulls are shorter (about 13 foot 6 from memory) and they ran 202 Holdens. Saw one for sale about a year ago for $5500 complete and running. Looks like it's NSW's turn to reinvent the skiff. The one at Forster was doing somewhere around 70 mph and just did everything right.

I put a link on the site not long ago for one on eBay. Glass hull, timber deck, holden 6
Re: Forster Boaties reunion
The skiff that was for sale in Victoria was not a Queensland Skiff. It was claimed to be a Lewis (aren't they all) but, as far as I'm aware, all Qld Skiffs come off the same mould and it definitely wasn't Lewis. They were done to a formula, I don't think multiple carbs were allowed.
As Crocodile Dundee would say, "Call that a Qld Skiff ?? Now this is a Qld Skiff"

I believe that the queensland skiffs are made from a mold of a wooden skiff which is currently owned by Ray and Annette Goodhew. I have seen the skiff and it is quite exquisite. I cant remember the name of it though.
They are a formula type boat and they all run the same engine and carby, prop and shaft and rudder setup. Also they use a rather large alloy plate at the rear of the hull, almost like a cav plate but not quite. They do run very flat and turn quite quickly. Quite an impressive little class.

Those skiff go well. I had trouble running against them in ff sure.
I k ow we are a strictly wood group but I cant see anything bad with these tribute boats being built.

Here you go Dave some more from Forster. Sizing photos for the forum on a laptop using a tourch for backlighting made the task a little more difficult.
