Bloody Big Plastic Skiffs

Braved the elements today and went to Newcastle to watch the offshore boys do their thing. What a great venue for watching these guys, they come in fairly close on the run back up to Newcastle. Shame about the weather 'though, strong southerly, big swell, heavy rain, and very poor visibility. Don't know how they saw the bouys out there.
One of the Maritomo boats hit a big swell on the first lap and was just about vertical. Must have hurt the boat 'cause they pulled out after the first lap.

Whilst watching, I couldn't help but to think that these things ride like a really big skiff.

Here is the only pic that was (sort of) worthwhile posting. Couldn't manipulate the camera while holding the brolly in the strong wind and pouring rain.
