thanks very much to Greg for the new instrument surround, I have been able to correct my former folly of fitting a "hotrod" cluster to my boat
here is before, after , and during the lacquering of the birds eye maple veneer.
I was letting it dry on the back verandah in the sun between coats, and could not believe what landed on it !

They look so much better with the correct guages. Steering wheels is another thing that has to be right.

Looks great, go on, tell me you didn't think about painting it in.

Looks good Mark, whats next?
Re: new instrument cluster for Lady Bird
nothing more to do really Dave. if I could have found one of these surrounds in the first place I wouldn't have had to rework it. the original dash had a 2"drop in the centre which I kept whacking my knee on. so in cutting it up higher with a curved bottom it meant I had to re jig the cluster. that's when my problems started as I couldn't find anything original looking to fit. anyway, it all worked out in the end I guess.
as for the steering wheel Dave P., I guess I could put an XP or EH prem one on, but I don't mind a small point of difference. the boat has no significant history, and what with its Lewis bow piece, Lewis style windscreen, Ron Johnson coaming, quilted upholstery etc, about the only authentic Everingham feature is the angle of the transom.
I too am a steering wheel nazi. I have seen so many classic car restos and customs let down by a cheap ass sports steering wheel. we actually had a big buck hotrod in the other day for tyres. the car owed him 80k and it had a vinyl Formuling wheel. couldn't believe it.!
so, in spite of the fact that wife says my ears must be painted on, (I don't listen) I am interested in suggestions.
