16ft Boesch Design Restoration

Postby Damo » 15 Feb 2013, 16:58

Hello all from over in the West,
In November last year I picked up an old bondwood woody from the side of a shed for a few hundred bucks with the vision of a bit of a clean up and a service and off I go into the sunset! Heh Heh , so you have all heard this story before. Well I will follow suit in regards to Peters posts and hopefully help others and myself at the same time as I am a bit of a newby in the boat scene i'm afraid. My prefered vices are beer, 60's motorbikes and cars so a wooden boat is way out of my comfort zone. A lot has transpired in the last few months with learnings being taken from these forums and good old trial and error but I'm happy where I'm currently at with the boat as all the structural issues have now been replaced and or repaired and the boat has now been turned. I will endevour to start to post picutes of my jouney over the last 3 and a bit months up to where I am at at this current point in time so sit back and relax and enjoy my ride.

Look forward to seeing some pics, your story sounds eerily familiar even down to the Beosch design. At 3 months you beat me by 2 years and 9 months!. cheers Ray

Tyre had to be dug out of the ground and trailer jacked so we could get the prop out of the dirt before we could move her

No right hand side wheel had burried both the rudder and prop in the dirt

Just to throw a cat in, member Jim Crilly has one of these as well and when I was talking to him the other day he has followed a different trail and believes that these are Len Hedges designed. I am thinking that he might be right, as these plans where available here while the "Beosch" design was overseas. check out the post on the ski boat site (http://aussieskiboats.blogspot.com.au/2 ... ki-hi.html)

The other boat I know for sure that is a Hedges design is "Viteau" and though it's been fancied up a bit from the original plans (beautiful resto and a 350) you can see the similarity.

I will see if I can get some pics of Jims

What a ripper boat. I'm sure with all the encouragement from the members here it won't be long before you make rapid progress and the appearance.

I'm sure that it will be well worth it by the time it gets a wet butt.

As an aside does anyone know where one might find a copy of the plans for the boat in the link. Wouldn't mind the next boat being a brand new one as I'm sure that they are easier than a resto.

Did I hear myself say the next boat. I must be mad

Good luck
Peter

Thanks Peter, I have watched and learnt quite a lot from your thread which has saveved me no end of time . As per Alans post I am still none the wiser as the hull is similar but the deck is completely different, ( Back to square one ) . I know this particular boats history for about the last 25-30 years of whih is quite different to other boats. This boat has never ever had a name which is good for me as i now have no boundries. The story goes that this boat was bougfht by a station owner in the midwest of Western Australia which I dont need to remind most of you is very , very DRY. Once every 3-4 years there was enough rain to fill up a salt lake on the property upon which they dragged the old girl out of the shed ,fueled her up and went sking. I aquired the boat from one of the ex employees of bthe station who was given the boat once he left. It has had one restoration that I know of that he performed. Unfortunately he fibreglassed the top deck trapping moisture between the wood and the glass not to mention the ants rendering the deck useless by the time I recieved the boat. I will post some more pics
