Has anybody had any experience with this stuff, particularly with varnishing decks.

Reads a bit like snake oil, interested to see how it goes.

It's interesting as it say's it contains Naptha and is oil based. I did ask a while back about using Copper Naphthenate as a treatment to prevent rot. A few didn't recommend it as they reckoned I would have problems with paint/varnish adhering to the wood due to the oil residue. It seems to be big in the states with the "Patina" crowd.

Test on old wardrobe door and go from there. Remember it on the shelves but never tried it.
Re: Penetrol
Painting timber should be sealed both sides or nothing .It will trap moisture under the deck and lift the vanish in time." Nothing " will breath both sides and "salt water" will preserve the timber. Early boating days boats where stained with colour " red brick mortar " and timber was porous and swelled stopping leaks. Metals should be heated for painting , its amazing how much moisture is trapped metal. 2 pack clear paint will bloom white in time if under side isn't sealed.
