Hey Guys, Well finally happened and I now have an very old hydro sitting in my shed . I have no idea of the age but im guessing late 30's early forties as this would fit the know history that i know of.
Condition is very very average and as you can see by the photos its been sitting in this one shed for nearly 40 years. This boat was apperently campained here in western australia but at this stage i cant find ant info on the net.
Im pretty sure that Satan is the original name but now that I have it in the shed I will do some digging. Please any info that our members can give me on the approx age or model will be greatly appretiated.
I noticed that this thing is only held together with only screws and nails and no glue?????? this may be a hint on the age.
The engine cover is missing as is the engine pipes but everything else came with the boat. All the frames are oregan timber with layers of ply on the outside
I suppose the question is is this worth restoring / rebuilding , the answer to that will be if the boat has history and is rare!!!

Re: OLD HYDROPLANE - SATAN
By the way. It's a pre war design but more than likely built just after WWII or late 40's.
It probably always had that tail and the cowlings would have been canvas covered like a model aeroplane.
I've always wanted to build one of these style hydro's.
They didn't prop ride and were quickly superseded once prop riders showed their superiority.

Very cool, reminds me of Maryanne but probably older. Maryanne was launched in 1957 but not sure how old the design was.
Is it possible that whatever they may have used as glue has disappeared over time?
Link to Maryanne.

Re: OLD HYDROPLANE - SATAN
Dave Mary anne is a David Beech designed copy of Rich Hallets Alter Ego. There were several of them built here proba ly the most famous of them being Grace Walkers Dianne. Another hull named Minx had the first rotary valved grey motor.
This hull is a crude copy of an American Ventnor hull. Different animal completely.
Again several of these were built and raced. The most famous of them being one of Earnie Nunns Wasps.

Thanks for the info guys, I'm very interested in this old boat as th fit and finish is extremely good. Right down to decorative fittings, I know where I can get hold of the original owners son so I can hopefully get some more history on this boat.
I was told by the last owner today that when on song this thing used to throw huge rooster tails but was a pig to turn
