Good evening all.
I thought it was about time I posted some pictures of the Glen - L Thunderbolt I have been building in my spare time.
The frames are Fijian Mahogany which I purchased from Mathews Timber in Sydney, $22.00 per metre for a 250mm x 25mm rough sawn plank. The plywood Gussets and engine bearer Laminations are 9mm AA Grade Hoop pine Marine plywood.
It is a good strong plywood with 7 layers, I am not sure how I am going to stain it to match the frame materials yet though.
I hope to get the stem, keel and chine logs installed in the near future, watch this space for further pictures.

Re: Glen - L Thunderbolt build
Looks like a nice start. Is that a lambretta ape?
Re: Glen - L Thunderbolt build
well spotted Dave a 1959 Lambretta FLI 175.
I am restoring the body for a client, needs a lot of work as it is very rusty, has only a LH door and I have to build a mirror image of it to make a RH door, very time consuming.
If you happen to have a RH door in your shed at home amongst your treasures and would like to sell it please let me know as it would save me a lot of work.
cheers Nathan.

Re: Glen - L Thunderbolt build
have made some progress toward getting the thunderbolt ready for plywood sheeting, the plan is to get it sheeted so I can take it off its building form and use the form to set the skiff up for its rebuild.

Re: Glen - L Thunderbolt build
I havn't had much shed time lately as I have been working away the last 4 months.
I got a spare couple of day last week and glued the gunwales on and started fairing them to get the sides to fit nicely, with a bit of luck the sides will be on soon and I can get on with fitting the bottom, after that the boat can be turned over and the 16 foot skiff can be set up properly on the building jig for some much needed TLC.
will post some more pictures when I get a spare minute to do some more.

Re: Glen - L Thunderbolt build
I e restored a lot of boats but never built a whole one. One day maybe.
Re: Glen - L Thunderbolt build
Looking good Nathan
Re: Glen - L Thunderbolt build
greeting all,
I found another spare couple of days and got the plywood on the sides of the boat.
Next job is to fair the chine battens and keel to suit the bottom profile of the boat and get it all even both sides and set up correctly as per the plans.

Looking great Nathan
Re: Glen - L Thunderbolt build
Thanks Ray,
I am stuck in Essendon for the next two weeks and should have a spare week after that so I can get the bottom on, I m also picking up the mahogany plywood for the deck While Iam here and some more timber for the skiff as well.
As soon as the Glen L is off the jig the skiff will be back under way.
