I think you may add another state to the list - WA
The original owner repurchased the boat around ten years ago, and was a member of the club. His work took him to WA, I think the boat also went for a time.
I drove the boat at Nagambie on the Goulburn River.
Went well, a bit of a handful on the turns - typical turn, rollup, go straight, if pressed.
Main issue was if you turn engine off to coast into bank it pulled a handbrake turn to the left from memory, put me into a clump of trees 180 degees from the direction of travel.
Back then the question of who built the boat was tossed around.
Popular opinion was that definently Jack Burns did not build it.
I had a feeling Col Winton or maybe Traegar in SA had a hand in it, it was well built.
The engine was a 313 poly- quite healthly 10 years ago

I've spoken with Jack, he claims it's one of his; either way it's a pretty cool old wooden boat;
I've had 2 wooden Everinghams. ( Cardinal Puff & Skidaddle 4) both owners claimed that their boat was the last woody built by Bert. It really doesn't matter who built it & when, it's all wood!

I believe Bert built another wooden "Flea" in just the last few years. I've seen a photo of it somewhere.

You're right Dave, it was built just before he left Sackville.
Ive got some pictures somewhere as well.
Agreed regarding the exact details of these boats - there is loads of heresay.
I dont think any boatbuilders would have thought that 50 years down the track
their handiwork would be alive and kicking.

I think this is the new "Flea". Photo from the Everingham Owners Facebook page.
Guess my point is as long as the older boat builders are still around, they keep building wooden boats if and when they want to.
Apologies for ambushing this thread, I remember seeing Yandy at Mannum and more recently at Goolwa as Stardust, good luck with the resto.

That's ok happy for the interest, speaking of resto. Has anyone tried soda blasting ? Thouhht it may be the ideal to strip the interior

I looked into it and had a small area done as a test. It was ok on hard timbers such as the ribs of our boat which are Spotted Gum but on the softer plywood of the planking it was awful. It made the surface all furry and would have eroded it away quite a bit.

I eventually went with paint stripper but not the normal stuff from the green shed or paint places. I went with one that is a a spray on liquid paint stripper. It was reasonably expensive but it worked as it was advertised and needed no sanding after the removal process before application of the the varnish to the inside of the boat.
I'm not sure where you are but the product is from Sydney but they will ship it anywhere.

If you are interested I can find the name of the product and the retailer

Yes that's the product.
If you have a look at my posts in the restoration topic under the project there are some photos of the interior before and after. If they are no there send me your email address and I will forward some to you. I was very impressed with the ease that it worked and also the surface finish left behind.
