A tip for those making up their gunwale bending jig.
Peter Adcock suggested I overbent the jig setting slightly
which stood me in good stead, after I pulled it out of the jig
it "relaxed" alittle - but was relatively painless to fit.
And for those who don't know why we make the jig (well in my case)
it allows the gunwale to be steam bent and then allowed to dry,
before it is epoxied and screwed on.
Cheers

Darren , the gunwales on my boat "Invader"were not glued from the factory, as they had never been removed all that was behind them was what ever varnish had seeped there when the deck was coated.
But they did have a lot of tension as you say to refit them.

The whole idea of the gunwale is to protect the boat. They are supposed to be the wear item like tyres therefore easiky replaced. If you glue them on that job becomes a nightmare.
Re: Rhonda Babe II
I have just removed the gunwales off Nova. They were glued and nailed. Unfortunately, even with a huge amount of care and cajoling, one side came off in two pieces. The other side came off in four. Bastard of a job!
Ross, don't sell that stick you have in your rafters.

Mmmmmmmmmmm, Crap!!!!!!! still got my training wheels on fellas
Re: Rhonda Babe II
We glued & screwed one of the gunwales to RB2 last week. Turned out to be a bastard of a job, it just didn't want to sit right. Dave was starting to think that we should have attached them to the hull straight from the steamer, instead of bending them on a jig.
Dave did the other side by himself a couple of days later, he reckoned that this one went on at a rapid rate of knots. But wait, this is a race boat, so it should have gone on at a rapid rate of miles per hour.
Here's some pics. Won't be long and Dave will be putting the clear on the deck & tuck.

Yeah its pretty awsome except the buckling at the front of the deck. Every day I look at it. Today im going to finish sanding the gunwales and installing the helicoils into the block.
