308 Speed gear and over transom pipes

Postby Dave88 » 10 Jun 2012, 20:31

I'm looking for some older style speed equipment for a Holden V8 (I realize plenty of aftermarket stuff can still be had new for these motors, but I want something with a bit more nostalgia factor... if you know what I mean...)

Rocker Covers
Inlet Manifolds or mech. injection
Twin Point Dizzy (or a magneto would be nice!)
and, some over transom pipes

You get the idea! :D

Look forward to hearing from you

Hi Dave,
A lot of trick parts exist with the guys in speedway racing. Look out for 308 distributor with twin coils. Redline make a Quad Weber 44 IDF manifold. Holden 308 [ turbo trans bolt pattern ] you can use some chev mounts.

Thanks for the heads up everyone.
It's a lot harder to come across than chev gear that's for sure

Mid 70's they stroked the 308 Holden by using a Ford Y-block crank , i do have the full specs somewhere. That Duggins set up wasn't complete and they where asking $4-$5k . Brocky found the head bolt pattern in the 308 wasn't good for high comp, for long term reliablity. Most of his motors ran 10-1 comp pistons. Cams watch out for, there's one that rocks the 308 and wouldn't be to kind to your bearers. I try to follow up some specs.

Yep not enough head bolts. I lost track of how many head gaskets I blew.

The only way to get around blowing head gaskets on a 308 , O-ring the block and use a copper head gaskets.
On Ebay a near mint Twin Coil distributor for 308 item # 261045328271.

Cheers for the heads up. Bummer, I would be all over them if they didn't angle back to the centre (being in a rear seater hydro, they might obstruct the view. Not to mention what the fumes would do to my head :) )

Interesting stuff. And yep, I'm hearing ya. The 308 wasn't my first choice for the hydro but it's a fresh engine and I'm too miserable to spend the money rebuilding the SBC at the moment  If I have no luck I can swap it out down the track, but it should be ok for the occasional blat down the river I hope

I got hold of some rocker covers and a magneto. Just an inlet & some pipes to go and the running gear will be all sorted
