Haynes & Hellyer Gears Wanted - 10% approx
Re: Haynes & Hellyer Gears Wanted - 10% approx
Now I'm confused. 8% or 16%..... Maybe I need to call Phil Haynes.
Re: Haynes & Hellyer Gears Wanted - 10% approx
If the gears are 25 and 21 then 25/21 = 1.1905 to 1. That's pretty close to 19%. (as an overdrive)

Dave was right on the money!

Makes sense to me now. I vaguely remember turning the top shaft ten times and counting the revolutions on the bottom shaft - for the methematically challenged like myself, even that's friggin hard. Thanks for the help everyone... 20% it is.

Its pretty simple if you rotate the top shaft ten times and the bottom spins twelve you have 20% eleven times 10%.
Mathematically its nine and nineteen. Im surprised you have such big gears a skiff. Usually they run one to one. FF Sure has threes.
I have a set of tens you can borrow to see if what you want to do works.

Hi Bob & Dave,
Glen Traeger is going to run 12% in Fury which is apparently what it ran back in its racing days.

Not slowing down Chris, only aiming to get the engine to run a bit closer to where it makes peak power. Just checked the dyno sheets and the magic machine says that peak power of 427.3 hp is at 6000 rpm. I'm running around at 5,000 rpm at the very best... the dyno sheets say that is 382 hp. So I figure that if I can get the engine spinning to say 5200 it will take a bit of load off the engine. The current set up (5000 rpm, 20% overdrive, 16" pitch prop) at 100% efficiency gives 90mph. Allow for a margin for slip and Rebound is close to 80 mph. I reckon that's fast enough for an old girl, Chris.
