Velvet Drive Bellhousing for a Holden 253 304 or 308

Postby gwhastie » 20 Oct 2022, 19:07

Hi folks.

I'm nearly 4 years into my 3rd build of a 16' Glen-L Crackerbox classic American wooden powerboat and have just realised that the unused SBC/BBC bellhousing I bought at the outset won't fit my current Holden 304 V8....the starter motor bulge is in the wrong spot.

I'm hoping one of you may have a used one tucked away in your garage that you may be willing to sell or swap. Kincaid Marine Rolco currently retail them for just under $1000, but I'm looking for a lower cost option.

Regards, Gary - Berwick Vic.

Hi Garry, there is another option if you want, I used a V6 Commodore starter in a plastic boat with a 355, only had to remove a little amount from the bell housing and have a careful repositioning of one of the bolt holes. I'll admit I have lost track but I'm sure it's coming up to 14 years service teaching lots of skiers and starting in gear.

In the end, I was able to buy a new Mercruiser counter clockwise starter motor in Qld that fits my existing bellhousing bulge and flywheel ring gear.
