Come on Andy, P76's were a very special car all round! Especially in the looks department

Hi John,
The 4.4 is agood little engine .I wouldnt like to pay that sort of dollars for one though. We have had one in a ski boat not made of wood for 25 years this October.Back then we bought the whole P76 in Melbourne for $500 ,drove it home, flogged it until the transmission blew, pulled it out of the car, made some steel mounts, put water into the steel manifolds , adapted the drive flange to the harmonic balancer and fitted it in a wooden clinker where a Dodge kew used to be. Hmmm, bit of an improvement there!!. Eventually I managed to find the last marinising kit made by MCE Engineering ,purchased that and a Shepirocraft Sabre stage 2 to fit around it all.Assembled it all, built a trailer for it and enjoyed it until the water ran out. After sitting in the shed for 8 years and s few months,it got dragged out and the motor removed and rebuilt, four barrell manifold made for it and holley 465 replaced the old worn 350 .It now goes quite well for what it is, you may have guessed by now that I have a relative soft spot for this particular engine.
Andy

So this motor would be a good buy at the right price? Is that a young you perched under the motor in that photo Andy? The motor that's for sale is in a boat so it must have all the marinising stuff on it, and they're all alloy aren't they? Hmmm...got me thinking.....but I still can't get over the issue I have with Leyland stuff - my first car was a (don't know if I should make this public!) mustard, kak, diorrhea, babyshit yellow Marina coupe

Come on Hookster,
when Andy was that young, Aluminium was worth more than gold per Kg.

Aaaah yes....the shortage of aluminium brought about by WWII. Should have known the photo was from about then Alan! Is that why everyone had gold teeth back then, not aluminium ones?
Re: Leyland 4.4 V8 on ebay $2300 or make offer
Could be, should add that they finally got it right when they put gold stuff inside the aluminium. That I like.

would this be a better option than putting back the really heavy and bulky y block in "the project"
just a thought also be easier to get parts if necessary.
