Interesting Hybrid

Postby Darren » 30 Nov 2010, 10:47

This is my old race boat I restored in the mid 80's.
It was done during my rebirth from the dark side (plastic man to wood man)
This boat has some history although not directly an Everingham.
Originally one of Barry Chaplin's "ARKFURN" boats from Cabarita Sydney.
He told me he had it made in the mid sixties ran a SBC virtually mid mounted
with a Wasson v drive. He said it was spectacular in a straight line,
but he couldn't turn it.
When I put the adjustable foot overide cav gear
and repositioned the turn fin that got sorted.
If I were a richman - I'd have it back for fun and nostalga
I ran a 302 chev it was a great straight leaper

Hi Darren, That old boat looks pretty slick to me, did you ever race it yourself? I'd be interested to know what your type or design of boat was when you were "On the dark side"...
What do you guess it will sell for ?

Scott,
I had spend 5 years in ski racing with OPB (other peoples boats)
more often going fast backwards
Decided to restore this to run 5 litre river races in the 85 season from memory.
Had it well sorted and was practicing in the bay (yep salt water)
and put way too much of my years salary out the side of the block
and through the extractors - needless to say I put a cover on it
and swore at it every time I walked past :x .
After a year or so put a motor back in and sold it to put towards a house.
List of dark side boats: Bullet outboard, Everingham plastic, Haines Stern drive,
Frightcraft I/B, Ramsay Sports K, and Syndicate from the good side.

Ramsay Sports K - in the olden days, I recall doing a test on that boat and liked it. Did you have a good experience with it Dazza?

Yes Bob I liked them a lot, drove one on the river....ran really straight and flat.
turned truly and hard.
Also sat in Amadash with Archie Robertson in a 6 litre ski race at Modewarre.
8 laps gunwhale to gunwhale beside a boat called 147 - Haines semi surfacing.
It was bum puckering stuff, those K's should have been much more popular.
