This is a great boat. I spoke to the owners a few weeks ago about it.
The first time I saw it was around twenty years ago in bert everinghams shed.
It was sitting there when my brother was having his lewis restored.
From what I remember bert only revarnished it and the owners rebuilt the y block.
The next time I saw it was maybe ten years ago when the owners wife ran it with her friend in the bridge to bridge. It finished no problems.
I have always wondered what happened to when they gave me a call.
I think its worth every cent of the asking price.
Whether they get it or not is to be seen. It really is a great unmolested boat.

Dave, would have this boat been originally set up with the velvet drive and vee drive arrangement?
I would love to see more of this set up but I really wonder if it would have been worth it. I have read a lot that reverse is pretty well useless in a ski boat although I can see having a neutral for warm up and less starter motor work when starting and stopping for skiing would be good (better than dog clutch).

I don't know Craig. Everyone I've seen with a reverse has a really big grin on their moosh when they reverse away from the bank.
Personally though, I reckon they're sooks (from someone who has three boats and not a even clutch amongst them).

As far as I know this boat always had a velvet drive.
Dont let anyone convince you reverse is useless. They might be hard to steer in reverse and usually have a mind of their own but there is nothing better than being able to dock your boat without smashing into something.
The problem with putting a gearbox in your boat is the weight will gi forward and it wont ride right.

I'd reckon they'd be pretty handy when doing river work when currents can be an issue.
Thanks Dave, Yes I can see the positives with having that set up. I dont have any intention of doing that to my boat as I could bring myself to molesting it in anyway. I'm just very curious with that set up as its the first old woody ski boat that I have seen that was originally spec'd/built that way. Just something you dont see much of I guess and it caught my eye.

I didn't think twice about getting reverse. I know it's out of character but so was putting a v8 over the 186. As Dave wrote, they are not easy to back up but it's great when you come into the bank and putting it back on the trailer. Cheers chris

I love the reverse in the Hammond and if I could fit it to all my boats it would be in them
