Boat Archaeology

Hi Guy,
I have been pulling apart the new boat and discovering all sorts of new and strange things that makes me wonder what the hell the boat looked like when it was new. I will post more on this later. While stripping paint I discovered the boats name.....

thats a great name for a boat. thought about calling mine grumpy but certainly wont now that yours is already called that. looks like a good project

I always treat my restos a bit like a detective. I look for pencil lines mistakes marking out and old signwriting under the layers. Some of the things ive found include an autograph and build date in pencil under the deck of my hunts marine. The owners name and address under paint in the bilge of alfra.
There is a rumour that ff sure is not the skiff i have.
Under two layers of paint i found the original name.
Keep up the good work. You arent just bringing a boat back to life.

Good on you Nick ... I love seeing someone else multi-tasking ... I know you have a 186 that needs a rebuild in Suffrajet, and yet here you are jumping over onto Grumpy ... I love it

Yes Hookster, except that in my stupidity I thought that suffrajet was finished, got the new boat to play with and then discovered that old boats are never finished. In the end it is a good thing. When I get frustrated with the work on the 186 I go and mindlessly scrape of some paint and feel much better.
