Postby tommo » 28 Jul 2011, 19:50

Ahoy All, There is an article in "Classic Boat" UK the march issue about timber finish conducted by Richard Hare over a 42 month time span, it gives you the winning and loosing products the problem is know i have down sized it from 775 to 41 it is to hard to read but i will post it any way.I will mail the article it to Greg to see if he can fix it so we can all read it cheers tommo
Ps you should be able to "save as" and view it in on your computer so you can enlarge it :)

Hi me hartys I have tried every thing to make these pages readable any way the jist of it is that the West system (epoxy with topcoat polyuerthane) failed after 18 months and the winner was HEMPEL (BLAKES ) Classic Varnish no breakdown after 42 months and still going strong this is on a bit of wood exposed to the elements every day not tucked up in the shed like our boats only one other product came close and it was UV-TEC which envolves 15 coats of oil(evo basic) then de-nibbed and then 6 coats of classic varnish the 21 coat application takes 10 days it broke down at 42 months where the classic varnish takes 5 days 1/coat a day there were 10 different popular systems used hope this helps cheers tommo

I can get coating that wont brake down. Wont reject and is uv stable. Three coats on a boat will last years not months. You can add catalyst and make three coats a day very easy. Im just waiting for confirmation on price as discussed with hookster. Ill know monday. I can get freight to your door but need payment up front. If u want a pic of how it looks text me on 0427346132 and ill text a pic. Brian

Tommo

Email them to me (nh35_stormy@bigpond.com). If I can't get them readable on the board, I will put them on the website as a PDF download.

I have loaded a downloadable PDF file of the above on the website. It's just under 4 meg, so is a decent size file.

Go to: http://www.cawpba.com/CAWPBA/downloads.htm
