timber supplies
Hi Guys, a friend of mine is starting a new build and is looking for advice around timber for the frame work. He's wanting to know of any potential suppliers of Douglas fir or mahogany around the melbourne / geelong region. cheers and thanks in advance
Re: timber supplies
Ray, did you see Bob's post (Nirvana page 5) it's in Dandy but looks like good stuff.
Re: timber supplies
Here are the details again. They have KD Douglas Fir (which is what I bought) but also a lot more green stuff. Lovely timber and I think that the price is reasonable.

Re: timber supplies
Mathews Timber in Knoxfield also stocks Fijian mahogany in a good range of sizes. Very good people to deal with. https://www.mathewstimber.com.au/
Re: timber supplies
Tile Importers in Oakleigh have a huge timber yard and a wide range of merchandise grade timber at extremely competitive prices. As an example, they sell 6 metre lengths of Philippine Mahogany and dozens of other varieties of soft and hardwoods.
My last 16' hull was laminated in $2000 worth of Geerangang - a variety of Indonesian mahogany, but I was able to laminate my current 16' hull in Philippine mahogany - similar grain but a lighter base colour - for a fraction of that cost.
They also sell marine ply of varying thicknesses, but you need to carefully hand pick the sheets.
They're only open on weekdays.
