Carol-Lee

Postby coddo » 25 Jul 2020, 11:04

Hi everyone, after moving house and relocating to Hervey Bay, i am finally back on track with the repairs and restoration of Carol-Lee (now Raider). For the time being i am leaving her in the colours that Ken Warby painted it. The deck is not in real good shape, but for the purpose of getting it back in the water, it will do for now. New deck later on will be in Carol-Lee colours. I need to know if anyone has a Lewis Race Boat Name Plate (1969/70 vintage). I would also like to talk to Ron Johnson about this skiff. If i could have his contact details, that would be very much appreciated. Cheers, Coddo. P.S. When i learn how to post some photos i will.

Ahoy and welcome Coddo! The name plates are hard to obtain unless you get a boat with it, suffice to say expect to pay $$$ if you can get one. I am currently based on the Sunshine Coast and regularly go to Hervey Bay so if your interested I could catch up with you next time I am up?
Good luck with restoration, cheers

Yes welcome Coddo!
It's great that boat has returned to Australia. Ron Johnson is based in Huskisson NSW and still working on timber clinkers.
Seems ideal both you and Chivs are retired and are virtually neighbours.
So when you're with Chivs get him to call me and I'll give you the contact details for Ron.
Please consider joining CAWPBA, if you haven't already, there is a wealth of knowledge within the club.
Cheers
Darren

They have been done before Ray, with great expense. The other issue is that there were a few different designs over the years, so you would have to work out which one suited you boat (if you wanted to be really fussy).

Hi everyone, hopefully??? the CEO(wife), has been able to post some photos of Carol-Lee (Raider). Still a way to go, as i am rebuilding/restoring each and every mechanical component as i go. That way, hopefully, when she finally hits the water again everything will work as they should. Cheers.
