Prop size and pitch

Postby rayza1 » 28 Feb 2010, 22:10

Hi Guys, looking for some info into what pitch and size prop i should run on my boat. It's 16 ft bondwood running a near as stock 186, shaft angle is 14 degree. The hull is a double chine design (similar to Brian Bauch's) The prop shaft is 1" but don't think that will make much difference.

Hi rayza,
It depends a little on what you want to do with it.
I'll assume you're talking social / ski boat... If so I'd start with something like 11.5 x 12 3 blade
My 2c. Wait for a few more opinions though....

Cheers

Neil

Thanks Neil, the one that came with the boat is about 11". The boat was running a 318 then. Have no idea what the pitch is but i'm intending to get the prop checked out before i use it. There's a guy in Werribee who did a stainless one for my plastic boat and he repitched it from p16 to p17 as well as balancing it so maybe he can do the same to the brass one on this boat depending on how much it costs i supose. Maybe cheaper to just buy the right one! cheers
