Hartley resto

Finally got a chance to see what sort of nick the Hartley half cab is in. Took the best part of 2 days to strip the electrics and take the motor off. God it was put together well! It has some ply panels around the outboard well that have suffered over the years but they are good enough for patterns, in fact every piece of the boat is there! Once it was stripped of all the hardware and wiring is in pretty good nick

I found an old photo of my Dads Hartley, it gives an insight into why I have such an out there colour palette when it comes to boats!!

That's exactly what it was! he had the matching FB holden to go with it. The boat ran a grey motor as well. He knocked this up in the back yard from plans. Caught fire and burnt to the waterline about 10 years ago, very sad.

Got stuck into the Hartley yesterday (and a bit today), first thing was to give the inside a good high pressure clean and vacuum the flakey paint out. I now has a good surface for repainting later. Next I stripped the paint from the forward deck, and am reasonably happy with the condition of the ply underneath. I popped the windows out because the cabin needs to be stripped back as well and there is a bit of rot around the bottom where the cabin meets the deck. Will update as I progress!

Spent the last couple of Saturdays in the shed, finally have the deck and cabin stripped. It looks ok but I will have to replace the front of the cabin as it's a bit far gone. I'm under a bit of time pressure now as we have put the house on the market and I need to get most of the structural stuff done before we have to move. Our first move will be around the corner to my rental property, the second in about 20 months will be Clifton Springs on the Bellarine peninsula where we are building a second story on Carols ex rental property, when finished we should have 180 degree bay views and a triple bay garage ( to help ease the pain of losing my workshop) Cheers Ray

Another big day today, I tightened up some of the timber work of the cabin as well as making a new front panel. The next step will be sanding the deck and deciding what sort of finish will be appropriate, I know what I want but i'm prepared to be flexible in the name of getting it finished before I lose the workshop. Will put up some more pics soon.

Sounds like the endless stock of yellow paint could be reduced?

Good to see someone is still working!!!

Ray i hope the move goes well for you Clifton Springs has a great boat ramp and you will only have to take the half cab a short distance down the street . We have completed our move and it is time to get back out in the shed .I have just bought a set of triple carbys to fit to Nightmare which should get me out in the shed for a while . I like this months picture you can almost hear Pagan coming up the lake .Roll on November .
