Do i need a water pump .

I have just had Rascala measured for a set of extractors and with these mod i was woundering if it could be setup to run with no pump . I was told to fit a non return valve straight afterr the water pickup and the water pressure from moving at a reasonable speed would give enough flow . Is this advice correct ,does anyone have experiance with this system .

Is Rascala direct drive or have a clutch? No water pump works but my understanding is you need reasonable speed to make & keep flow.

Generally, boats like racing skiffs don't have water pumps. They're considered to be something else that can go wrong and they soak up a bit of precious power.. Problem is 'though, you have to be careful when you're coming into the bank or doing anything else that requires a slow speed. For any boat that is used for social running around, skiing etc, I'd suggest putting in a pump.

I agree with Bob.... have a water pump and Turbo Fire but I have no water pump on Rebound. Both boats have a marine thermostat system fitted to regulate the flow of water so as to keep engine temperature correct.

Rascala is direct drive ,I have had the V drive water coming from one pickup and straight out the side and there always good flow .I might give it a try as i only use it to hoon around now days . It has a water outlet just behind the drivers seat in the side so it should be easy to check the flow ,i was thinking of fitting a valve on the outlet so i can adjust the flow from the drivers seat .Thanks for your feedback .

You will cook it under say 20 or 30 mph. Put a pump on it.when I run one of my brace boats. It runs stone cold. From the time I decide to bring it in and idle the last fifty feet its almost hitting 200 degrees.

What seemed like a good idea yesterday ,does not seem so brilliant today . I have oather people driving the thing and i don't wont to be standing on the bank yelling to turn it off it will get to hot . The pump stays and the extractors are coming .
Thanks for the advice .

Anyone thinking of going to Cohuna .

Ken that made me laugh, the yelling (and waving) from the bank was exactly the situation when the "Maryanne" was recently relaunched. Some that took her for a spin weren't aware of the need for speed with no water pump. As Dave mentioned, the temperture rose rapidly but no damage done.

I don't imagine that's the first time, nor will it be the last that a jag engine's temp rose rapidly !
