Help needed

Postby Greg » 24 May 2014, 21:34

I received the following via email. The topic has been discussed quite a bit before, but I thought I'd throw it out again for discussion.

I have a mid 60s timber clinker ski boat.
Its 17ft long and runs a 350 chev. Its just undergone a full restoration but im having a lot of trouble with the hull torque twisiting under acceleration and higher speeds. Its ok up to 25mph but anymore it will roll to the left hand side to the point where its nearly on its side. I had this same problem before the restoration as well.

What does the Cav plate look like , reasonable size or very small and is it adjustable at all ? Is there a center Fin fitted to Hull.

Apologies Graeme, should have included these with my post.

I can see where a turn fin was originally fitted and I understand the boat is set up the same as original.

I've experienced similar handling with Turbo Fire - it arrived and departed with a change of props. A boat can change remarkably (for the better or worse) when you play with props. All I can suggest is to beg borrow or steal a bag of props and see what works and what doesn't by a process of trial and error.

Imagine being able to hold the prop solid in the water and start the boat, motor will wind the boat over !!
