Tomorrow it begins, many excuses why it's taken this long to start, some valid, some not so.
Buying a sander tomorrow, electric! Bosch? Makita, 6" 5" any ideas on which type?

AEG are good.
Bosch. Get the blue ones they are better than the more hobby based green ones.

Where are you based? There are some really good tool shops. If you are in Melbourne have a look at Just tools or United tools both really good tool shops. If in Sydney VEK Tools are good.

Get a rectangular sheet sander for most work. Easier to use and less costly for the sandpaper. Get the round ones and the mouse type only if you really need them.

Festool is the Rolls Royce and when coupled to a vacuum is virtually dust free. I have their RO125. It's a great sander

Their sanders are quite costly at about $600 starting cost.

Metabo is also very good.a bit less expensive than festool. Next choice is Makita or blue Bosch.

Buy a random orbital with the larger pad. Then go to a panel supply store and buy the hookit discs. They are about 50c each. The smaller discs cost heaps more.
Also buy a foam interface pad. I had a makita. It was around $380.
The normal orbital sanders are Inneficient now.

Sorry for the delay; life again...
Started stripping the top deck last night using a heat gun & reverse scraper; appears to be going well; just spent another hour or so tonight - again all seems well;
Paul - Stardust is a winged clinker run about built in the early sixty's by Jack Burns;
I brought the boat from SA a couple of years ago from an ad on this site; unsure if Greg can re-post some photos; I'll try shorty; the boat runs a 326 Chrysler poly;
Engine has an issue on one cylinder, nil compression; still to be investigated;
The boat was originally called "Phoenix" a change in owners & name to Yanda V (or Yandy) & another change to Stardust by the guy I purchased from;
The boat has lived in Vic, NSW & SA
Paul, the original ad is still in the members area

Paul the motor looks to have the original sump & rocker covers; maybe it's another sump, I'd be interested in the sump; the one the boat has now is a little ratty / home made
