Ressurected

Engine all back together, hooked up to the tap, starts runs and then I realise that no water is coming through the motor. Long story short the water pump is not turning over.It is a Jabsco pump. It was so tight that it will barely turn over by had and the belt spins on the pullly. Two questions should it be so tight, and can I pirate the one of a holden 6 to replace it or does the 350 chev need a bigger pump. Was keen to run this weekend but does not look like it now :x

What are the numbers on the side of the pump. I have a catalogue so can probably give you the right part no. for the impeller.

I think there are only two sizes in jabsco pumps. Compare you one on the six to the v8. If its the same size you should be right.
If you do put the smaller one on just keep an eye on the temp gauge.

I was given the wrong impellor for my Jabsco and it was so tight it couldnt be moved by hand.Had about 12 vanes compared to the one i swapped with had 5 or 6. Got the impression new pumps have smaller cams hence more vanes ???

I have ordered a new impeller from Nankervis'. I gave them the only number on the pump 4900 which is written on the shaft housing. This didn't seem to mean anything to them so I measured the one I took out. This does worry me a little as if I had the wrong one I will still have the wrong one, just newer. Hopefully it will all work and I will be at Eppalock this weekend. Still oil in the water too but hopefully this is residua oil and another change will sort it. Got to love boats, never boring.

I have a catalogue for these pumps
There is a 4900 listed. It shows that the impeller part number is #4968 or 4968-0003B
The service kit number for this pump is # SK234
The exploded view shows 8 vanes on the impeller
Email me on psneddon@bigpond.net.au and I will send a copy of the file with pictures etc back to you
Boat bits has the impeller listed at $75 and the kit at $140

New impeller fitted, pump spins freely and makes nice pumping sounds, all back in the boat, change of oil and filter and adjust the timing and all should be ready for a run at the Eppalock Picnic. Can't tell you how much I am looking forward to this, if she is half as good as Rascal I'll be happy. (This purchase was entirely Ken's fault  )
