Ford Y block

Postby piquet95971 » 14 Aug 2013, 14:05

Hi guys
I'm starting work on the Y block for the boat.
A cartridge oil filter for the boat being a Ryco R2006P, is a bit hard to find not impossible but a bit rare these days. I have been quoted anywhere between $35 and $46 for a filter.

Has anyone used the adapter kit to use a a spin on oil filter. The kit is readily available and ii about $75 to buy including an oil filter. Then the Z8 oil filters from then on are about$10-$15 each.

Any suggestions or recommendations would be appreciated.
Cheers
Peter.

Peter,

Looked at the adaptor and staying with the original and am going with neither. Will make up fittings to run to a remote filter like on my other boat.

The untapped oil hole is an odd size and would not tap to a standard size so drilled and tapped 2 small holes and will build a fitting with "O" ring and bolted on flange.

Thanks for your input James, it's appreciated.

I have sort of decided that I will go with the adaptor for a spin on oil filter.

I have found a supplier in Ballarat that has a good understanding of these engines. He has a good range of spares on the shelf. Today I picked up a brand new, made in USA, fuel pump with the filter can on the end from them. $72.00 over the counter or $80 on the net.

The business is All American Auto Parts, Ph 5339 6533, 519 Dowling St,Wendouree

On the web at http://www.allamericanautoparts.com.au

Friendly and know their stuff
Cheers

Thanks, I have set my max at $43 plus $7 postage.
That's about all that I think I'll need for the engine at present..

I do need a repair kit for the water pump. I pulled the pump off, removed the back plate to discover that the impeller is shagged.
