prop size for Rascala

Postby RightyO » 08 May 2013, 19:19

I am looking for ideas on what prop size i will need for Rascala. It will be running a 253 holden rear mount and a haynes hellier direct drive 11% box.I was thinking about 11 dia 13deg Lh.I would appreciate any ideas.I have fitted a new 1" shaft and the motor and box are setup. It has been painted red and has black edging around the new varnished deck.

Ring Nankervis In Bendigo 0354394925 , they will be able to tell you what size you need, They have been in race boats since the 50s.
They are great to talk to.

Ken
It's great to see the wheels are are grinding forward, Rascala is a great project.
I am embarrassed to admit I saw it racing....it was a great view from the pram LOL
Any now, for what its worth, I have a tiny engine in a big boat with Steinway (17.5ft)
running 11% gears with an auto trans sucking horsepower (but reverse is worth it)
and the number is 11 x 11 Which give me 50 mph with a tailwind at 5100 ish rpm.
Methinks you could easily spin 11x13 depending on how healthy the engine is.

Well Ken, it worked and the boat is looking good. I'm impressed with the hull rests, too.

I wonder what the load rating is for one of those crates. Must look it up on the Google machine.

Bob as you can see it past the milk crate test the front one developed a v shape but survived.I worked for test engineering for 30 years and the tensile test machine had a sign on it (one test is worth a thousand expert opinions)They past ok.
