Looking really good Ross. What's the flange on the front of the engine? Is that a drive for something?

Bob, that is a very early 283 balancer , the pulley just bolted on the front. Probably not many around any more as most get the larger balancer with rubber mounted outer ring.
Some restorer would love to have that !!!

Thanks Ross,
I remember them now. Chucked one out about 20 years ago, maybe I should have kept it.

Boat now where I can work on it - Replaced the jockey wheel with a swivel one , as the old one worked its way down on our house move and the boat came off the Monaro in town after a dip in the road stripping the thread of the old coupling , lucky we were only travelling slow. A modern coupling will be fitted now.
Have been working on the z/drive in the last 2 weeks with the dismantling and inspection reveling that after 20years sitting around there was no water damage inside , with gears in good con.
A new set of bearings and gasket's and seal's fitted after some adjusting of the relief on the side of the gears to clear the new bearing outer race.
The outer of the new bearing was 2mm deeper than the original so the gear's were put in the lathe and ground deeper with the angle grinder to clear.
The box is now back in the boat , shaft log had some new seals fitted.
Next job will be to rework the way the drive is bolted up to the crank-- At this point the fly wheel can not be tightened with a socket and tension wrench.
May try to fabricate a bolt on plate that locates bolts to the redrilled flywheel and the uni-drive will locate and bolt to it .
Flywheel's can be dangerous ,, would rather know its on tight !!!

You must be getting pretty close to finishing Invader, Ross?

Ross I have section of flywheel ring gear teeth that I use when tensioning flywheels (lock it into the flywheel adjacent to a bell housing bolt or dowel). You're welcome to grab it whenever.

Old monaro on 4 month holiday !
Time to get some projects done and use the space wisely.
Only a few weeks and the garden will be growing and temp will be better for recoating boats.
Next job will be resetting up the steering . and find some one to bend 2 1/2 " ss for exaust.

Craig. When will you start on your trailer ?

Ross, not long. Just gotta get some straps and get the boat lifted off the trailer with the hoist. Mine is 2". I'll check when I'm home next week as I'm sure the bloke I'm getting the steel through has a bender. I'll pm you his number if you want to call him.

Today l pulled out the orignal throttle linkage, it was a heap of bell cranks and long lengths of rod to get to the carb from the pedal along the bearerl to the front of the engine and up to carb level.
A new one was made from the orignal pedal up the rear of the engine to the carb.
Is now much nicer.
