Hey Damo ,,,
Just looking at the pictures of your rudder and am concerned
that you will have a very heavy helm.. Did you build the rudder?
You need to have some leading edge balance forward of the shaft.
About 15 to 20% may be required to reduce the force to turn the wheel.
It appears to have plenty of room forward of the rudder to modify it,
there is some good info on the NET thingy.
There are bound to be other opinions from the fast guys ,
Anyway hope this helps.
Ric...

Ummmmmmmmmmmmmm - :? :? :? Heavy Helm mmmmmmm :?: :?: :?: , Sorry Ric but as I have stated before I'm a novice at this boat "Stuff" so please pardon my ignorance on this one. With respect to the cav plate yes I did build it but it is a direct copy of the old one that came off the boat as per the pics below. Before I go cutting and welding again I will test it out first and then make a decision based on real world performance. Thanks for the info mate as I will now go and have a read on how they are set up and hopefully increase my knowledge on this   . "" Bloody Boats""

Hi damo, nice looking project, you should be proud.
What Ric is referring to is the balance of the rudder itself, not related to the cav plate. Imagine if you put the rudder on backwards, you could never hope to hold the wheel straight, I.e too much rudder in front of shaft, to lighten the steering the rudders have say 25% of the blade in front of the pivot point and 75% behind, the closer these numbers are together the lighter the steering gets but this also increases drag when turning .

Lindsay
still workin on the boat...

Thanks Lindsay, that's one of the great things about this site is that there's always people that have done these things before and willing to help. :D . I have finally dropped the motor in the boat for a trial fit tonight and am very very relieved :D :D that it just fits as I doubled the width of the bridge without thinking of the motor position. Looks soooooooo cool 8-) 8-) 8-) , am getting very toey now that's for sure!!!!!!!!!
