Started the last hull repair yesterday along the same lines as the last, got to the stage that the repair just need to be drilled and installed . With any luck I may be able to achieve this after work today.

Scarf prep on the hull, as can be seen this smaller piece of ply was installed first when the boat was built then the sides and bottom ply were installed locking it in.

Matching scarfs, I found using a wood rasp on the scarf on the boat is alot less risky and gives good results although slower

Great Posts Damo they activate me to get out in the shed and have a crack on the clinker.I am skarfing acouple of planks at the moment 8-)

Hey Fellas, As I am starting to see a glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel and I need to start thinking about my trailer. Can anyone possibly help in regards to how the jockey wheel was set up on my trailer as it looks like it locked in and out of position. I am replacing the rear half of the trailer from where the underside bracing finishes and will be boxing out the area around the springs with angle so it wont bend agian. Any and all help is much appreciated. :)

""OK"" Ive just epoxyed in the last repair to the hull so in theory the Bloody thing should actually float now :D . So now im going to venture into the black art of varnishing :o :shock: :o :shock: of which I think there are about a thousand different options from what I have read :?: :?: :?: Every time i read a post and decide thats the way i want to go there is a conflicting one somewhere else leaving me bloody :? :? :? . Not to mention the painting side of things :roll: :roll: :roll:. The plan is fellas to paint the bottom completely and have strips around the transom and sides like River jewel. So I bought 4 ltrs of feast watson spar varnish to use on the sides and then Im thinking maybe I should be using 2 pac urethane as its harder, :shock: :shock: :shock: . again any help in this area will be greatly appreciated

Trailer- Ony use it for a pattern, the chances of the front being good enough to use is slim or if you do you will be doing it again in no time.
These rust from the inside out, you good work is going to sit on it, and if it is all new it wont be sitting on the road side.
Start fresh ,pipe is or tube is the right look for the boat so build a new pipe trailer it is not nuch more work to build a complete one as to replace the rear, But it will need better braceing on the rear.
Two pipe side rails is the way to go, bringing them together at the front , spaced with 75-100mm flatt steel or herringbone brace with 12mm steel rod.

Damo, If you ant to buil a cheep trailer , build it out of 100x50 steel perlin or 150mm, you can get away with 1.6 or 2mm thick.
This is the way I build mine, it will coat you about $500 for matt. incuding new springs and hubs & stubbs and coupling.

Hey Damo, if you have a look in the readers boats section the"Cheryl D" might have a similar jockey wheel setup to yours,but i think Ross is onto it, looks like a start again job. :(

Yeah I hate to admit it but new definately seems the logical choice , Thanks Ross!!. While im at it whats the general consencis of one axle vs two as it seems that it would definately make the trailer safer thus protecting your boat. At any rate I am going to stick with the pipe trailer design to be period correct, I just might slip in another axle!

The twin axle is good on the road and if balanced right front jockey wheel not much use, but if you have to move it around the yard or at a boat ramp by hand they are dificult to turn.
If the boat is light then I woud stay with a single axle.
