Is there a Chev small block low profile distributor?
Is there a Chev small block low profile distributor?
Howdy all, just fitted a hatch over the engine in Bullitt and was wondering if there was a low profile dizzy available, so I don't have to cut extra out of the hatch to accommodate the dizzy cap and leads? I have seen the Mercruiser style dizzys with the leads coming out of the side of the cap - do they fit a small block Chev? Any solutions anyone? Cheers me harty's - Jon.

Offset Distributor Drives $$$$$$. Accel made a electronic distributor which wasn't very tall. Give me some measurements . I will check with what i have.

Geez thanks everyone, that's given me something to work with. Doc I'll measure up what space I have when I get home this arvo and post accordingly. Thanks Pete I'll check out the ebay listing. And lastly, oh dear last but not least... Alan...I will check out your suggestions But I'm with you Ric, it sure sounds like something you'd come home with after a night out in King Street, Melbourne. Not that I would expect Alan to have any (recent) experience there.....

Doc I have 150mm clearance from the dizzy seat on the inlet manifold to the underside of the hatch cover. I checked out the other option of a crab style cap on later model Mallory dizzys, and to do that I have to go full electronic ignition with a module and crank sensor, which is pretty pricey

Accel f42049 Electronic from manifold surface to top of right angle boot coil. Measures 175mm, bugger but the cheapest way out-any chev dist.plus a front alloy tming cover to suit a fuel injection pump. Have the dist. shaft cut and internal shaft cut to size and filed to hex key to match front plate. Should pickup plate for $150. Ford flatheads had this conversion in the 60's with late dist. The dist. runs in line with the cam.

We'll have to keep looking Doc, last time I saw it there was a water pump in the front cover. We might have to convince him to put a ford in it?

How about one these right angled dizzy but minus the injection bit?
Dunno how pricey or available though.
