Dog cluthes

Please could anyone offer me some advice on the conversion of a direct drive to a dog clutch setup? I've never had much to do with them. Its for a V8 flathead
I guess an adaptor plate will be needed, but what else besides the gearbox.
I undestand the prop shaft will need to be shortened, but will I need to move the motor etc.?
I would appreciate any advice before I waste time and money chasing one.
Its going in a social use type boat, so i'm looking at it from a safety point of view more than anything as well as more user friendly.
again.... any suggestions, advice would be appreciated.
