OK all, it seems we have got some momentum going here.

I was looking at a launch time of around the 10 am from the Warmies at Newport (http://www.baum.com.au/ramps/Warmies) (http://maps.google.com.au/maps?q=warmie ... =en&tab=wl).

I figure return would be around 3 pm.

Comments invited.

I went for a drive yesterday and had a look at Herring Island. I was a little concerned at the water depth - it was low tide. Also, you can only tie up a couple of boats at the landing there. Other landing options looked like mud or reeds. I figure we could just as well pull up somewhere along the way for a coffee and leg stretch. There are not a lot of options, but I liked the look of one at the Botanical Gardens landing.

The river has a strict limit of 5 knots, so your boat will need to be able to idle along for a couple hours without overheating. Also, river is lined with bluestone pitchers, so pulling a boat up on the bank anywhere is a rough option. Landing jetties are provided here and there, so ropes and fenders are advisable.

good to be prepared, I like the idea of picking a spot that looks friendly on the day, if we start around 10 what time do you think we will get back ?
