Ahoy Graham!

Have you had a chance to give Pace Setter a run since Narrandera, I’m interested to know if you got the speed you are after? I’ve hopefully attached some motivation, cheers

I've entered with Thunda Babe. Can someone also indicate what the scrutineering requirements will be including equipment such as helmets and jacket types. Thanks.

Craig,

While there is no formal scrutineering for Aquafest the following gives an idea of the expected standard that boats should self scrutineer to.

Life Jacket Australian standards approved. Consideration should be given to a life-jacket with a collar and leg straps if your open boat has a top speed in excess of recreational ski speed.
Helmet Australian standards approved. Bright colour is better
Boots or shoes to be worn
Boat name on trailer
Fuel tank(s) & lines secure and in good condition
Ignition/ electrical cut out switch with attachment to secure to life-jacket OR idle set to stall.
Bow eye (25mm ID hole) OR deck cleat suitable for towing
Throttles spring loaded (Must return to idle)
Battery secure
Steering components secure & in good condition
Steering Stops fitted to prevent over-control
No visible flaw or crack in propeller
Propeller lock nutted or pinned
No unsecured equipment
Suitable floatation fitted and secure
SBA Registration number on boat
SBA Reg label affixed to boat

For Inboards
No visible flaws in rudder or skeg
Prop shaft and moving parts covered
Oil breather inside hull
All nuts in steering linkages locked
Rudder shaft locked (+ clamp bolt)
Clearance prop to skeg
Base plate on skeg - double nuts, nyloc nuts or nuts safety wired
Prop shaft collar fitted OR the shaft coupling has a minimum of two safety-wired setscrews

For Outboard / Sterndrive
Trim gauge/ indicator fitted
Steering cables in good condition & double clamped

For Cell Boats
Mirror on both sides
Canopy opens inside and out
External kill switch
Seat belt latch opens

Given the age of some participating boats the bow eye diameter is not strictly adhered to.

Hi Chivs,

I have not had a chance to run Pace Set'r in the configuration we discussed at Narrandera. However at a recent club picnic day in full circuit race trim it achieved 85.5 MPH on a 700 metre course with waves everywhere. I then headed off towards the island in search of better water and managed to hit a rolling wash off the paddle steamer Oscar W which shot the boat completely out of the water landing about 30 degrees nose down. I departed the seat and pedals but luckily returned to them at idle and the right way up. In 50 odd years of racing and time trialing hydros it is the first time I have been frightened by one and required an undies change.

Bugger Graham, that bum puckering only comes around rarely. The only chance i will have this year will be the same as last year, flying in for the day. Scrubcat is still "in progress" for this year... Al has made some significant changes for this freshen up, hopefully back on the water for Narrandera
