New member - Jeff Thompson SA

Gday All

My name is Jeff Thompson from Adelaide.
I have just bought Dave D's little grey powered skiff last week.

Image

I have also joined the CAWPBA and Im keen to get along to some outings with her.
Dave introduced me to some SA members at the test & tune day at Goolwa before Narrardera late last year.

I have always been a 'old holden' guy (still am) but
my boating interest go back a long way.

My Grandparents used to have a shack at Goolwa which the whole family were at every easter back in the 70's.
I would always be found at the Goolwa speedboat club watching the racing.
Those sights and sounds have always been with me as great memories from my childhood. (I was only around 12 yrs old then)

My plans for the boat are to shift the seating postion back to where it should be,
new dash layout, and a new deck & engine cover, to get her looking more like she should.

I will be looking for ideas on the layout of the changes I want to make,
to have the boat looking as genuine as possable.

While its not a boat with known history or pedigree, thats ok by me.
I am not a restorer with my cars, and this boat will allow me to 'Hot Rod it'
with out destroying any heritage

Cheers
Jeff

Welcome mate. You need to find some pics of some original hulls to model the lines off. Doing boats can be a lot easier to do than old cars.

Welcome Jeff,
Drove your skiff at Narrandera. I think with the seating position back to original it will be a "cranker"
As Dave says study the original pics you will see how the skiffs were constructed.
A lot of builders simply made the smaller skiffs same as the larger ones....so they too can be a guide.
Enjoy

Thanks for the welcome fella's 8-)

Yes I do need to find good pictures as a referance,
thats one of the reasons why I have joined here.
I have seen lots of pics of boats, not so much on cockpit layouts.
Thanks to blown292, I have some good pics of Impacts dash & cockpit trim
from the 'lets go cruisin' pics he posted the other day.
I also need to reaserch steering column and accelerator pedal set ups to get mine looking right.

Looking forward to getting it wet.

Cheers
Jeff

Welcome Jeff,
I am fairly new as well. There is a heap of great info available here and a lot of great discussion. The boat looks great. At least yours is already going, mine will be years away!

Cheers
Chris.

Gday All
I sent some emails off to Queensland speedboat clubs asking if
the QL rego prefix may have come from queensland originally,
and also if any one could possibly indentify the origins of my skiff.

A lead came back saying it could possibly have been a Peter Ward's 'Tweetie' a MG powered skiff from NSW,
Or a Col Winton built boat.

Does anyone have any info on Tweetie, Peter Ward or Col Winton?

I know its a long shot
but I had to ask :)

Cheers
Jeff

btw; I'm taking her out on sunday for my first spin in a skiff :D

Just learned Colin Winton designed both Stampede and Solo hydros.
Info from the John Lewis Vulture site
