wooden worry

Postby rayza1 » 29 Aug 2010, 21:09

Managed to get the old girl on the water today for it's shakedown trials, pleased to say that all went well except for the cooling, i think the water pump may need a rebuild. Boat feels balanced and has plenty of poke. From here the deck goes on and hopefully Narrandra is within reach, just depends on how much time i can put in on it. Was a good feeling seeing the old girl come back from the dead.

thats awesome ray. love the yellow aswell. looks like ya have done a realy good job. sounds like the impellor in ya water pump may be buggered. even when they look good they dont pump water. i have always done a new one at the start of every season in my boats and never had a drama. just dont run it dry and it will last along time

nerranreda looks like its going to be a good turn out

Looks great Ray,
How did you get the alt to work? and where did you find the water? It'll be great to get some butter box company at Narrandera this year.
Alan.

Thanks for the encouragement guys, it makes all the hard work worthwhile when it comes from people who have been there. Used Pykes creek for the trials as it's fairly small and if the poo hit the fan i didn't have far to go to get to a beaching point (had a second boat along just in case) As far as the alternator goes it seems all 3 that i tried were buggered, have had one rebuilt so hopefully that problem is behind me. Now for the next problem, where can i get spare parts to rebuild the Jabsco water pump? It's got 4 rubber coated cylindrical rollers inside and i think the're stuffed, the rest of the pump looks ok. Have been on the net and cant find anything that looks remotely the same. cheers all!!

Have made a bit of a blue, the water pump isn't a jabsco. It's something called a pauls jet pump, was very hard to read the writing on it. Does that mean anything to anyone?

Ray

These were an Australian made pump, but have been out of production for years. I had one fitted to Stormy originally and tried to find replacements rollers back in the 90's. I couldn't find anything then and haven't seen anything since. I tried fabricating some new rollers using a heavy plastic or nylon material, but without success. I don't think they were heavy enough.

I think you're up for a new/second hand pump.

Thanks for clearing that up Greg, i tried fabricating some rollers today with no success. Has anyone tried an electric pump? I can see potential problems with controling water flow but would be a lot easier to set up. Otherwise i'm in the market for another mechanical pump.
