Exciting times Bob. It should come up a treat. No painting for the next few days I guess with the rain coming?

Not so much the rain but the spec is 30 hours drying time before I can sand. Sand, paint then wait another 30 hours.

Second coat of undercoat went on this morning. I have not been all that happy with the resulkts thus far so i watched some You Tube videos and decided to change my technique. So today I used a wider roller and loaded the roller with more paint to give a "wetter" finish. This time it's looking significantly better. (It looks grey in the photo but it is white.) Also decided against mixing the undercoat with the top coat sticking with a conventional process. Now I've got another 30 hour wait before sanding back, then it's time for some red top coat, #1 of 3 coats. I'm not much of a painter, but at long last I'm happy with the result.

Sanded the undercoat down with 400 grit paper, then taped off the boot stripe line before rolling and tipping the first coat of red. The coverage is fine but while the paint has good body, it is thin in terms of colour. If that makes sense. I suspect that red and yellow have issues of colour transparency. The pic shows some banding where the roller has overlapped. The roll and tip process leaves an excellent finish which is flat and high gloss. Once the paint goes hard (24 hours?) I will cut it back with a Scotch Brite pad before the next coat. A couple of small runs to fix up too.

Looking good for a first coat.
Yellow is terrible for coverage

Going well Bob. Looks great. You're going to scare the poo out every fish in the water though. :D

Second coat of top coat on with maybe 1 or 2 more to follow. This coat has delivered a vastly improved coverage over the first. Still a way short of perfect but I'm confident that the next coat will be pretty close. If I go four coats I'm tempted to give the hull a rub back with 1000 grit wet & dry - any thoughts from those more experienced in painting than me?

Looks good from here Bob. Maybe do a test patch somewhere inconspicuous where you're thinking of rubbing it back.
