Nirvana 1941 Chris Craft
Re: Nirvana 1941 Chris Craft
Success at last! Yah. Today I put on my third coat of red, but instead of the roll & tip method I just hit it with a brush from bow to transom with very pleasing results. Coverage problems seem to be gone. My thought is that the paint thinkness with the roller is thin so the coverage is sub standard (= more coats needed) and because it's thin when you come to drag the brush tip over the rolled area, the wet edge is thin, and already starting to dry off enough to cause the brush to drag. I don't think I'll be doing a the coat. When it dries and hardens I may look at hitting a couiple of spots with ultra fine cutters/polsh... otherwise it's time to peel off some tape and work on to the white boot stripe.

Re: Nirvana 1941 Chris Craft
That's a great outcome Bob. It won't be long till rollover time.
Re: Nirvana 1941 Chris Craft
Spot on... bootstripe then roll over BBQ time.
Re: Nirvana 1941 Chris Craft
I'm done with painting the bottom. Steep learning curve for me but the result is a 7/10 IMO. I can see the faults and maybe some day I'll go back and hit the area bewteen the bootstripe and the chine with wet and dry to flatten out a few spots. So.... good from afar but far from good .... now where have I heard that before? Next is the BBQ roll over day with the A team.

Re: Nirvana 1941 Chris Craft
If you're not still learning you're not trying hard enough, or you know everything.............top job Bob.
Re: Nirvana 1941 Chris Craft
Thanks to Craig and Ross for their invaluable help today to roll Nirvana back. Amazing how quickly we did it this time - we spent way more time afterwards with beer, sausage rolls, coffee and cake. Big day! BTW - nice to have it right way up again.

Thats looking great Bob, don't be too hard on yourself re the finish, if you don't show off the faults no one will ever find them!

Bob, Bobby, mate, cock!
Because of the intimate relationship you have with Nivana this problem will be an ongoing affair!! I’m hoping it’s not going to be a trailer Queen but used appropriately? That being the case, even if it was perfect that will not last if it’s used! Lastly no one is going to run their hands over the hull sides, the deck yes, but all said and done the whole package, the originality, the restoration and the fact it will float and go for another 50 years is a job well done! Keep up the good work mate, loving the journey!

No worries Bob!
I'm glad we could help, and more importantly catch up for an enjoyable yak.
I think I'm just starting to come out of the food coma now.....................
