Back onto the Chris Craft yesterday and today. Finally finished stripping off the paint on the bottom. Don't really know what it was, but it was very fine and came off readily under the spinning Festool Rotax 150. With the bulk of the finish gone, I then used an in-line air sander (like panel beaters use) to sand fore and aft. I also did a small repair at the forefoot where the keel line didn't meet the cutwater properly. The plan is to now work down through the grits to 320, spot fill with epoxy and then start applying the paint finish. Depending on how long the Covid lockdown runs, my aim is to have the bottom painted by the time the regions open up again.

Actually Alan I just did a quick calculation and I reckon that it could take 10 to 14 days to prep and paint. Yes Craig the hull seems very sound. Zero rot which has been a godsend.

The joys (read costs) of restoration! I want to retain the stained sides of Nirvana so set about matching the (out of date) CC mahogany stain that was supplied with the boat. The Interlux Intersatin and 333 Brushing Liquid are not available in Australia, so I had to source both from the US. But they are HazMat products. Fortunately the virtual shipping agent that I use in the USA has a HazMat repack service as the retail suppliers in the US will not ship HazMat products internationally. So good news is that the correct CC stain is available but bad news is the cost. The two cans have landed with me but the cost was approx $80 AUD to purchase and the shipping was $170 AUD. And just for the record, Akzo Nobel in Australia were of no help at all. Grrrrr!
