Worth saving?

Postby Waywood » 18 Dec 2019, 19:28

Hi members I've stumbled across a barn find and unsure of which direction to take. The boat is a twin cockpit with a Dodge Q motor running twin carbs.
Strip plank decking is only part there and has ribs about 100mm apart. It has a price on it and the clincher is that the hull has been glassed over and I'm
wonder if anyone has tried to remove glass and their success?

I’m sure somewhere on the bulletin board there’s stories about removing fibreglass. I think it’ll depend how well the fibreglass is stuck to the wood. If it’s stuck well then you’ll probably damage the wood.

I've had success using the heat gun and putty knife method but it can be really slow going.
Some sections would tear off in long strips whereas other sections needed to be worked inch by inch.
I found that dynel cloth or woven mat fibreglass is much easier to lift than chopped strand mat.

Thanks Guys. I think it will peel off ok with some heat. Although a great project its beyond my timeframe of 30 lifetime projects already. I'll contact admin and put it up for sale for the owner.
