Thunda Babe
Re: Thunda Babe
Hadn't heard of this stuff. Interesting to see how it goes Craig. Do you (roughly) know what the ingredients are? It looks a bit like the old Shellite/plaster of Paris brew.
Re: Thunda Babe
Greg it's a mineral turpentine based paste. Sorry but they don't list what else it contains. It goes on quite sloppy and has a gritty consistency to it and is grey in colour.
Re: Thunda Babe
Hi Craig, are you going to glue to that surface when it's clean, or just use a 'mastic' between the planks ?
Re: Thunda Babe
No Glue Alan. I was going to use an oil based primer with Penetrol, on the keel only, then a thin top coat before assembly. This will depend on how well this stuff works as to whether I use the oil based primer or not.
Re: Thunda Babe
Well I'm pretty impressed with the results.
Re: Thunda Babe
That is an amazing transformation. Right product for the job Craig.
Re: Thunda Babe
Thanks Bob. It's shown up a few more areas of concern which looks to be some more rot, so I'll have some extra work to do there.
Re: Thunda Babe
Prepped the keel and the first two planks today. Knocked up a tool bit for my air chisel today and did some practice roving. Crap weather tomorrow so I have no excuse for being out of the shed.
Re: Thunda Babe
Well done Craig! I use the shellite and whiting paste works well
Re: Thunda Babe
Thanks Darren. Got some colour on the keel and first planks. It probably seems weird that I'm doing it this way but I'm trying to avoid painting the planks together after riveting. The ultimate aim is to stop the paint from cracking due to plank movement.
Riveting begins this weekend.
