the deck has been removed and will go back on again it was in very good condition under 50 coats of varnish and 30 years of dust I was quite surprised.
i have started cleaning the inside of the hull and it looks as good as the day it was built

Re: 12 foot simpkin skiff
Coming up a treat Nathan. You'd have to be happy with this find especially in such great condition. Looking forward to seeing it in the flesh.

Nathan, I was unpacking some boxes from storage today and came across the program for the 1974 Griffith Cup held at Lake Eppalock and there appeared an entry in the 100ci scratch race for one "Hairy" a corolla powered skiff driven by N. Potts. Bee Pee and Rascala also get a mention.
Re: 12 foot simpkin skiff
Thanks for letting me know about this Loco,
I wonder if it did any good, noel potts was one of the drivers of the boat over the years, I think the last year it raced was 1974 as the 100 ci class seems to have disappeard after 1975.
cheers Nathan

Re: 12 foot simpkin skiff
I have just returned from a trip to sydney where i picked up a hot little formula 3 3k corrolla engine for hairy coutesy of Kevin Leggott.
Im sure its 135 horsepower will ensure the little skiff "Hairy" will be a bit of a hairy ride
Thankyou Kevin for meeting me at Sydney and saving me an extra days driving

Re: 12 foot simpkin skiff
Nathan Im happy your back home with the Corolla bits - I just found a pipe that connects the oil pump input to the outside of the block via the mechanical fuel pump hole - the F3 set up with scavange off the timing case used this arrangement. Ill txt you a pic and can post if you want - but relatively easy to make
The internals were 'new' in 1995 and may have done one race meeting -79mm TRD pistons and Argo rods from memory but a decent dry sump arrangement is a must. They are tuff little engines but like most car engines used in continuous high rev applications struggle to effectively scavange oil out of the rocker cover
Will be great to see it in action again
