strut/cutlass bush clearance

Postby jenko » 18 Aug 2016, 10:27

I was just checking the clearance on my strut bush and it is .014'' is this normal for a 1'' shaft with a fibre bush ( do they swell up in the water and take up the clearance?) has only done 10 hours since new .
I have no vibrations, misalignment ,or problems, was just curious as it seems a bit loose to me

I'm no expert but, 0.36mm is very little considering the amount of twist/flex that the hull, shaft etc have. The last strut bush I installed now has 250 hours on It, initially it was a fairly neat fit and wore quickly then settled. It has a slight rattle if I grab the prop shaft and give it a shake. The original bush had at least a couple of mm of clearance and was not causing any problems, this was changed to go up from a 7/8" shaft to 1".
