Here's a Facebook page that looks back on the joyride speedboats that operated around Sydney and Manly from the 30's to the 60's.
I remember going for a ride in Kookaburra II at the Sydney Classic and Wooden Boat Festival in the late 1990's. The boat was just out of a restoration with the Sydney Heritage Fleet. Four cockpits, 26', Chrysler Royal striaght 8 motor. We cruised around the harbour for about 20 minutes. Fantastic, but a wet boat

Sydney and Manly speedboats
Re: Sydney and Manly speedboats
Thanks Greg, very interesting!
Tomboy came from Sydney, and I have suspected she may have started life as a Manly fun ride based on a similar boat a previous member had that was one, the hulls were very similar!
The way the boats ride and sit in the water are identical to Tomboy.
Cheers from Chivs.
