Dads boat firefly ran in the 95ci class with a Fiat 1500, It was an identical hull to Naid. Tried tracking down dads old boat years ago it has not surfaced, would love to find it.

Will - those lines to the gearbox are water cooling... it had a small water jacket cast into the case. I believe that Ron Leaney built a gearbox for himself (Piranaha) and then did others for people like me. I don't think the market was particulalry big, but I guess after the cases were cast, (from Ron's perspective) it was just a matter of machining and bearings which for an engineer like Ron was a soda.

Hello fireflyii,
I have been lucky enough to scan various articles and photos loaned to me by Murray Stannard who raced boats in WA and nationally with his father Clyde in the 1950's and 1960's.
Amongst the images I have is the photo wallet below which was signed and given to the Stannard family. I am unsure whether this is the boat you referred to in your post.
Regards, Ray.

Here is a couple of pics of dads boat back in the 60's at deepwater. The boat is identical to Naiad although the hull was changed slightly when Dad sold it to his brother who restored it and added some changes. Like I said earlier, I would love to find it.

Regards
Ben

Thanks for posting your pics Ray, I think there were a few Firefly's getting around over the years. Here is a pic of the most recent one I know of. Dad and I built this together a few years back now.

Naiad back in the day at DMBC. Photo was taken from one of dads old slides. I recall dad saying the owner ran two different engines in this; the lotus cortina and an alfa romeo.
