Well she got her bum wet today after a year off the water. Stoked that the heat exchanger set up worked really well with just some fine tuning with proportioning water flow between the exhaust and exchanger. I wasn't happy with the timing as there seems to be too much advance above 2 grand. Tomorrow we're going 4 a second run after fitting another dissy with a different curve rate and will do some more rejetting.

Greg we went ok, mixed outcomes I guess. The new distributor removed a lot of the harshness from the engine but we are plagued with a flat spot of which I'm pretty sure I know what the issue is. I tried various pump jet, idle and main jet configurations with no luck. At the end of the day we had nothing but a black bum (the boat!) with overfueling. I have the same carby and manifold set up on my FB Holden and it suffers from the same thing. The issue lies in the manifold with lack of heating for proper atomisation, poor distribution, fuel dropping out of the air stream when you floor it, etc. I also wish these later DCOE webers had ported vacuum which would help greatly. Anyway lots of thinking to do to sort this one out. Other than that it was a little rougher than we'd hoped so we gave it up after a few hours and once all the wake boats had turned up. She seems to pull ok and make good speed but I am suss on the accuracy of the tacho and speedo. Best we made was 4500rpm at 45mph. Seemed slow to me but I live in hope too!

I have had four 6 cylinder seacrafts two with webber carbs fitted and spent hours trying to get them right . They always had a hesitation on take off and seemed to rich . The other two had triple SU and pulled well with no flat spots .Your revs and spedo sound correct as they should do 10 mph to 1000 revs . I have seacraft specs which claim
186 -43mph
186S -45mph
186GT-46mph
186GTS-50mph
I think Greg down loaded these specs perhaps he knows where to find them .

Thanks Ken. Not sure which way to go with the flat spot as yet. SU's were in my plan for the grey when I get it built. I'm tempted to try a few mods to this manifold first and keep working with the weber.

Alan I've gone down to 32mm chokes as initially the bulk of the hesitation was from late starting of the main circuit. I've also probably got an issue with the fuel pump as its a Holley Red which is rate at 100Gpm. I'm running a pressure reducer in the line but I don't have much faith in them and would prefer with running the correct pressure and flow from the right sized pump without the need for a regulator. The Holley is way overkill and I was replacing it anyway as its well worn internally.

In the historic car racing fraternity we have long had problems with the holley fuel pumps, both the red and the blue. POS
Most people have replaced them with a carter electric fuel pump and never had a problem from then on.
even with the carter i think you would still have to run a pressure regulator. The one in My XU1 is adjustable and I have attached a pressure gauge to it as well.
Works fine and never had a problem with it
