Looking good Craig.

I'm sure I've seen those (or similar) guards on something else.

Close but not with a swept tail. Are yours round top as well? Toyed with flat top but looked a bit too modern for me. :D

I like the rounded style as well, but plenty of trailers in the era sported square topped guards.

I was more referring to the Screwit/Ratbag trailers for the familiarity ;)

No Ross's are rolled double radius flat top guards. That was my reference to "flat top". I didn't even know he had them till the other day......show's you how much I take notice lol. Yep I mulled over keeping the original box shape guards but I never liked the pointed corners on top and closeness to the boat. They and their frames were really heavy and the mounts had broken before. I think at least I'm keeping the look close as would be for the era even though it's not dead original. I also like it because you can see the nice flowing lines of the boat rather than having a chunky guard spoiling it.

The good wife decided to let me dodge some house painting today! Guard fill ins nearly finished. Start on brackets and bracing tomorrow. Noted some angle with wheels and it looks like the axle is bending somewhat under the weight of the boat. Thinking of doing some strengthening work on that now.

A little more progress. Wiring, lights, and final paint. Deciding on running boards or not.

How did you go with the axle bending Craig?

I was talking to someone at Easytow Trailers the other week and he mentioned that they had moved (or were about to) move from solid to tube section axles. Much stronger and less prone to bending, he said.

Greg it just turned out to be the U bolts that holds the suspension frame to the chassis weren't tight and that was allowing the wheels to tilt inwards. I just lifted the whole unit up and tightened them without any weight on the trailer and rechecked it loaded back on the ground and it was ok. I think once this suspension arrangement gives up the ghost I'm going to change to 45mm springs and directly mount them to the chassis. These 1 1/2 springs and bushes are non existent. Any luck I'll give out before the trailer does.

Interesting the move to tube from solid. Were the solid axles square section? I can understand then the change to tube if so.

A little bit to go. Finished wiring, waiting on new carpet for the bearers, some final paint touch-ups, rims done with 165/80 13's 8plys and EK hubcaps. Still undecided on fitting walking boards as yet. Now to make a start with repairs on the boat. Very happy with the new look of the trailer.
