Had to make the first changes to Pagan today, unfortunately the exhausts could not be saved as they were badly rusted, with one being almost ready to part company with the manifold. After much discucssion i've decided to go with stainless for the new one's that are getting made, I can always coat them in heat proof paint if they don't look right. In the mean time i've got the trailer lights working. Really looking forward to seeing how feels on the water!

Try and patch it up. If you have to replace it try and reproduce that patina. Shiny stuff and weathered stuff looks terrible together.

Hey Dave, there was nothing left to patch. I tried braising it on friday, too much rust. No 4 pipe only holding by a quater inch of metal and water cooling pipe. You cant weld rust

Ray just replace what needs replacing. Make it out of the same stuff and try and weather it the same as the others.
You need to think like the guy that built it. What he had available at the time.
Its the way museums approach artifacts. They try and maintain the original fabric of the piece.
There is this real early racer in sth aus. Its called silver streak. It was built in the twenties. The guy got it like pagan.
It takes years to get that patina.
It was fantastic until he restored it. Its all blinged up. To me its ruined .
I only restore things when there is no option.

Ray send the pipes up to me. I weld rust for a living. Ill do it for free for you.

Might be a tad too late for that, being done as we speak. Everything is going to be exectly the same without the rust. Believe me when i say there was NOTHING left to weld, i know enough welders down here that know what the're doing, i've spent the last 35 years working with welders!! The original set of pipes were painted heat proof siver, will take exactly 1 minute to paint these the same if thats the problem.

Spent a good part of my day at vic roads getting Pagans rego changed to my name and the trailer given a serial no. and some reg. It would seem that the trailer was last registered in 1988.......very impressive! I'm not even that slack. Now have a voltage rectifier thingy and a tacho that should run from a magneto, Thanks Bob!

Pagan has her new exhaust system, barely any outward difference except these one's aren't falling off. Hoping for some water action this weekend, depending on weather i might take it home to it's old stomping ground Lake Learmonth. cheers Ray
