Shed Find

Postby Bob Vic » 21 Jan 2013, 17:38

I never cease to be amazed at what turns up in sheds. Came across these three on the weekend at a spot in East Gippsland. The skiff was completed but never fitted out so never raced; the hydro was built for Joe Cooper (Mariah) but was never finished/launched and the Lewis (called Serious) was left for repair who knows when and was never collected. The skiff has a lot of rot in the aft half of the hull, the deck is gone too but it is repairable (it now has a new owner); the hydro is a rear seater but is way too far gone with rot, while the Lewis is also a long way gone but could be restored by a very dedicated new owner. The Lewis is very similar to Cherdith, maybe not as long though. All three boats were on the same property!

Alan - the skiff isn't in my shed.... are you trying to shatter the present state of matrimonial bliss?

And yes, the skiff did remain in one piece. We ripped off a few bits before towing it away... didn't want to have anything fall off and create problems on the road.

The guy who bought it, Robert, has a sheet of marine ply and plenty of other timber, so repairing the hull is no big deal for him. Then it's just an engine, prop shaft, log, skeg, fin, steering, seat, fuel tank, trailer, prop.... easy!

Speaking of Skiffs at Goolwa, another one, "Miss Lyndy" was reintroduced to water at the Powerboat picnic on Sunday. Some engine issues but I'm sure they'll sorted out pretty quickly.

Hi Bob,
I believe its a South East skiff, runs a 296 or 298 SBC with injection as it competed in the 300 class.
Its owned by the guy who also owns Cherdith.
Photo from Goolwa back in the racing days.
And the motor as it is.

That's a great example of why the good old days were the good old days!
