I have just had a bad experience with staff at a marine suppliers shop in Elizabeth St, Melbourne.
I wont name the company but a hint is that thay are named after a British thread form!!!!
I asked about 3M5200 for a seam on "The Project" and was told that we haven't got that product but other silicony stuff and that quite often liquid nails works.
I left in disgust and will probably not bother with them again if that is the sort of information that is being doled out. Admittedly the staff member was so young that he probably only had his first shave last month and wont needone for another month, but, sheesh, at least employ people that have some boat/marine knowledge rather than unknowing staff. Or train them properly!!
cheers

Re 3 m 5200 Peter, it is a special product and not many stock it, it has a short shelf life and once opened it must be used within 24 hours!
There is a lot of info on the web about it, the only place in Tassie that I have found stocks it is Tamar marine, (launceston/northern Tas) they sell,it for $23 a tube and will charge $9 postage, I have only seen white and black but know you can get maghony as per Dave Pagano and Glen from Townsville!

Re: un helpful staff
I have had a look at the 3m website and saw their list of stockists.
I thought that as I was already at the marine store to get some silicon bronze nails I would ask about the 5200 sealant.
I had some spare cash and thought that I would ask and put it away for the caulking in the not too distant future.
thanks Chris for the contact
cheers

Re: un helpful staff
I havent had any trouble buying it out of the us. I think the company i biught it from was named marine direct.
I brought in around two dozen tubes. It was here in around a week. I gave up trying to buy it here long ago.

McDonald Marine http://www.mcmarine.com.au/marine.html in South Melbourne are really good to deal with. I thought they sold 3M 5200, but just did a quick search of their web site and couldn't find it. They seem to know their stuff and have an interest in supplying Australian made products which gets my vote.
Good luck with the search
